Brisbane Open House Program – 2018

Brisbane Open House,  part of  the Open House Worldwide Family is on again for 2018. 

In its ninth year,  Brisbane Open House will be held between 13 – 14 October 2018 and showcases many of Brisbane’s buildings to the public.  These include historical landmarks, heritage listed buildings, museums, churches, office buildings and even bridges. Many of these may not normally be accessible by members of the public.

The annual event grows in popularity each year with over 70 buildings  taking part this year.

September is Festival Month in Brisbane

September each year sees the arrival of not only a welcome spring but of the Brisbane Festival.  

This annual international arts festival will be held at various Brisbane locations between 3 – 24 September 2016.  Emerging from the popular Warana Festival, first held in 1961, the festival continues to grow in its appeal to locals and visitors from across the world.

There is something for everyone, from Cabaret to Opera, Circus to Film and everything in between.   Families are well catered for, and many activities are free. 

The three -week long festival will culminate in the spectacular  Sunsuper Riverfire fireworks display, all set to music chosen by Brisbanites.  A highlight of the   display will be an aerobatics display performed by the Australian Defence Force and RAAF Super Hornet and Army helicopter displays. (Availability of ADF equipment and aircraft including Super Hornets and helicopters is subject to operational requirements.)

If you are visiting Brisbane during September, make sure you put aside some time to enjoy the festivities.

Southbank Regional Flavour Festival

This weekend sees the return of the annual Southbank Regional Flavour Festival.

The festival, which is a becoming an annual July must do, is being tipped to be bigger and better than ever this year. Cooking demonstrations, markets, kids activities ensure there is something for everyone.

The options are endless; Maggie Beer, George Calombaris, Gary Mehigan, Matt Preston and Georgia Barnes will all be doing demonstrations and book signings. Or, see our local Queensland celebrities Alistair McLeod and Matt Golinski.

There is also free music, 80 stallholders and food trucks, beer, wine and kid’s activities.

Head on over to Southbank either Saturday 16 or Sunday 17 July to join in the fun.

Beat the heat at the City Botanic Gardens

A great place to beat the heat or just get away from it for a while in the CBD is the City Botanic Gardens.

The river frontage provides a top opportunity for walking, cycling or just sitting. The Gardens are open 24 hours a day and the pathways are lit at night.  There’s free wi-fi throughout.

Follow George, Albert or Edward Streets east to Alice Street and you’ll be at the Gardens within 10 minutes.
