ANZAC Day in Brisbane
What is ANZAC Day? Why does Brisbane come to a complete halt on the 25th of April? And where can you get the best ANZAC biscuits this week?
If you’re traveling to Australia this week, or visiting Brisbane for the weekend, it’s helpful to know that not a lot will be open on Thursday (April 25th). Inconvenient, yes, but it’s also a great opportunity to explore some of Australia’s (short, but) rich history.
Our Top Five Travel Gadgets
Allow us to paint a picture…..
You have just arrived at the airport to catch that dreaded 5am flight. You are wearing a full-to-the-brim backpack, a jumper around your waist, and have a coat slung over your arm. In your hand is a half-dead phone and a pair of earphones that keep tangling around the handle of your suitcase, which you are of course pulling at the same time.
As you near the terminal doors, the arm of your backpack slips off your shoulder and, oh dear, as you attempt to pull it up, your neck pillow slips from your other hand and onto the ground. This is the very neck pillow you hoped to bury your face in for the better half of the flight.
If you can sympathise with the image of this poor, unfortunate traveler, please keep reading. Today for the second instalment of our travel tips series, we’d like to list a few of our favourite travel gadgets and products we believe will make flying just a little easier, so that when you arrive you are refreshed, organised and ready to enjoy your holiday!

Most Popular
Our highly popular three-hour City Essentials Tour is available 7 days a week. You’ll be out and about by 9:30am, enjoying the sights and sounds of a fresh new Brisbane day. There are stops for the young and the old along the way, and we guarantee you will learn something that you just didn’t know about your city. We finish up at the picturesque Eagle Street Pier, where our guide will recommend the best lunch spots in the area.
If art is more Mum’s thing we have our Art and Design Tour for those interested in the cultural side of the city. You’ll be exposed to Brisbane’s open-air art scene, including murals, sculptures, and rogue street art. You’ll learn about each piece and hear the interesting stories associated with them. Our tour guide will also give plenty of recommendations on art galleries and the best food/art spots. You’ll finish the tour at GOMA where you can wander through the galleries, or if you feel like spending the rest of the day out doors, Southbank is a short stroll away. Available Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Finally, our Laneways and Cafe Tour This afternoon tour, which begins at 1.30pm is available Tuesday – Friday. You will be taken on a tasting trip through the streets of Brisbane. You’ll stop at selected laneway cafes, talk to passionate owners and baristas, and enjoy drinks at every corner. There’ll be plenty of food recommendations given, delicious bites consumed, and you’ll get to know the city as you walk.
We can’t wait to see you and make this Mother’s Day gift one she won’t forget!
Meet Lucy: Walk Brisbane Walking Tour’s Newest Fan!
One of the best parts of a job like ours is meeting a wide variety of people. A week ago on our City Essentials Tour, we met seasoned traveller and proud Melbournite, Lucy Firman. She is no stranger to a city walking tour, and was (she will agree), a little sceptical of what a former ‘country-city’ like Brisbane had to offer. Lucy has kindly agreed to give a recap of her experience. Enjoy!
Meet Lucy Firman
“Hi! My name is Lucy Firman. Technically I’m from Melbourne, but have lived here, there, and everywhere! I love to travel, and am a bit of an obsessive city walking tour geek when I travel overseas. It’s the best way to get to know a new city, but I never thought I’d go on a walking tour of Brisbane. Partly because I didn’t think they existed, and partly because after walking the streets of Tangier, I didn’t think that Brisbane would hold much mystery or interest for me. No offence to all you proud Queenslanders, but your city hasn’t always been given the reputation it deserves!
But after stumbling across Walk Brisbane’s website, my curiosity was piqued. Why not – I figured? I was probably going to spend three hours wandering around aimlessly on my own anyway, (or binge-watching the latest season of Stranger Things – I’m so behind!), so it seemed like the better choice! Street Art in Brisbane – A Cultural Treasure Trove
From bawdy murals in sixth-century Pompeii, to East Harlem’s Wall of Fame in New York, it’s hard to ignore the impact street art has had on the socio-political climate, and art-culture of the world.
In almost every age of history humans have been eager to leave their mark, (We’re sure you’re all familiar with the hurried scratchings left by starry-eyed teenagers on the back of the public-toilet-door). But when you think of street art, what are the places that come to mind? Who are the artists? Basquiat in New York? Pez in Barcelona? The latest Banksy?
